In the first session I focus on what is on your mind, knowing there may be more to discover. My experience is with a wide range of problems, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, relationships, work. Sometimes we move quickly. Other times we must take our time, patiently and with compassion. We talk about what you tell me, how this shows up in sessions, and we add important links from the past. The therapy has a foundation both in my expertise and in our forming a unique relationship with respect for what each of us brings to the work. To listen as a therapist means listening in a way that will help you hear yourself in new ways. Your anxieties are an initial focus. Today there is a surge of anxieties about gender identity and sexual choice. Other anxieties come from living in a contemporary world where there is so much uncertainty. We see if there are better ways of handling anxieties In a crisis therapy is short term. Or you may come with deep upset or blockages. There are then alternatives in how we proceed. You may find lying down frees your thinking. Or you may need face to face contact. Together we find the deep self- understanding that leads to freedom from anxieties, freedom to choose, freedom to be fully yourself.
