As a psychotherapist, marital and family therapist practicing for over 25 years, my goal is to work with individuals, couples or families, no matter how challenging the issues. Many people come seeking help for the first time, while others have been unsuccessful in other therapies, often for long periods of time. Some are very clear about what they want help with and some are ambivalent and need to define what it is they hope will change. Each person or family coming for a consultation has a unique set of circumstances, history, view of the world and personality and each therapy is unique given all those factors. I start with an hour consultation with the goal of gathering history and learning what brings the person, couple or family to my office. We decide what the goals are and assess together whether we are a “good fit” to do the often stressful and intense work. It is of utmost importance for us all to feel we can work as a team.
