About

I have been in private practice for 30 years, providing psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy to adolescents and adults. Each person is unique and I strive to listen carefully to you and your life history. I create a treatment plan that is unique to you. My approach addresses the underlying, mostly unconscious beliefs, emotions, and expectations that create problems in life. This approach is appropriate for many different issues as it addresses the deep causes of difficulties. The changes you make in psychoanalytic psychotherapy are deep and enduring and eliminates the need for symptoms as coping strategies.

I treat a variety of problems: for example, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, relationship and work conflicts, and dissociation. I specialize in treating eating disorders in adolescents and adults. While my approach is psychoanalytically oriented, I also incorporate other strategies such as CBT, mindfulness, coaching, support, and education.

In addition to my psychotherapy practice I provide education and consultation to mental health professionals and trainees in various settings. I am Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California Davis Medical School, and Adjunct Professor at Alliant International University.
