In my work with adults, children and teenagers, I focus on their strengths and encourage them to think beyond difficulties and identify achievable goals. I coach parents skills to better communicate with their children and become "safely unpredictable," particularly as many children (if not all) become experts in how to push their parents buttons! I have been told by many of my clients over the past 18 years that my warm and directive, confident approach has been most helpful. Many children and teenagers referred to my practice have been in therapy before, with limited success.
I am proud of my clients' success rate and enjoy working with a range of presenting problems--from ADHD to challenging, complex issues experienced by children, teenagers and adults. I work from an Integrative/CBT model, focusing on the here-and-now and understanding how irrational beliefs contribute to distress.
I and my team at Child and Family Associates of Greater Washington (CFA) motivate our clients to work through difficulties by facilitated self reflection and behavior modification. We are a collaborative group, focused on reinforcing our clients' strengths, while striving to increase their networks of support.
