I am inspired to work in the field of mental health because throughout my lifetime, I have worked in underserved communities where its was very difficult to access quality mental health care. I enjoy helping clients learn something new about themselves that they may have never considered. Thus, leading to fulfillment in their lives in areas including personal relationships, family dynamics, and professional growth that may ultimately enhance their self-worth and improve self-efficacy. I ensure that my clients feel heard and understood in sessions by expressing empathy and asking open-ended questions that invites clients to elaborate on their feelings and experiences while always considering family of origin, racial and cultural/ethic group, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status, etc. Contemplating counseling for the first time can be a scary decision. Many people have no idea what to expect. The counseling process requires developing a trustworthy relationship between the therapist and the client. As a therapist, it is my responsibility to cultivate the therapeutic relationship.
