All counseling issues are, in some way, related to grief. Loss of: a loved one, a relationship, work, health, youth, peace, innocence, self-esteem, etc. I believe all people are looking for unconditional acceptance, compassion and gentleness in dealing with their internal wounds. I entered the counseling field after watching a close friend heal from post-abortion grief by simply finding a safe place to talk about her experience. I feel that the ability to provide a safe place for people to express their pain is something I do naturally. Even good relationships include pain from time to time. Pain can become "ghosts" preventing us from becoming our healthiest selves. Ghosts chase us as long as we run from them. Facing them gives us the power to heal. Wounds FROM relationships heal best IN relationship. As a counselor, I provide relationship with clients in which to experience this healing. I truly enjoy what I do. I meet some of the nicest people I know in my counseling office. I don't see clients as "sick". I see them as people who are dealing with inner wounds caused by living in a less than perfect world. As a fellow human, I know how that feels. Because of that I find it easy to have empathy for others who are hurting.
