Is your child always moving? Trouble focusing? Outbursts when told no? Trouble in school & relationships? Trauma can impact a child’s ability to successfully function in daily life. A trauma focused occupational therapist (OT) works with children exposed to substances or high stress in utero, witness to substance use, high stress environments, neglect, medical trauma, and exposure to abuse or community violence in early childhood. A Trauma Specialized OT works to address the physical responses to trauma both independently and in partnership with individual trauma therapy to address both brain and body aspects of trauma healing. Childhood trauma can affect emotions, attachment, brain development, sensory processing, & behaviors/attention. Strong links have been seen between sensory processing and attachment difficulties. Sensory processing difficulties affect coordination, life skills, and ability to regulate. OT helps kids improve sensory processing and develop regulation skills. Sara completes thorough assessments including developmental history and standardized assessment to determine each child's unique needs prior to developing a personalized treatment plan. Treatment interventions are individualized to support each child and family's goals. Her goal is to support your family and child for improved success in all areas of life.
