I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and families struggling with overcontrol/excessive self-control. This can show up as rumination, hyper-perfectionism, rigidity, difficulty relaxing, and emotional loneliness (even with loved ones around). These challenges can intersect with substance abuse, suicidal ideation or attempts, and/or self-harm. Often, an overcontrolled coping style is central to conditions such as chronic anxiety/depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders like obsessive-compulsive and avoidant personalities. This way of coping may exacerbate or perpetuate trauma and grief symptoms as well. Through compassionate, trauma- and identity-responsive collaboration with clients, and intensive training in RO DBT, an evidence-based treatment designed specifically for overcontrol, individuals, couples, and families, are able to get unstuck; beyond that, they begin to live a life that is increasingly authentic, meaningfully connected, and effective. I invite you to reach out for a 15-minute consultation call to connect and explore the possibility of partnering together to work toward your valued goals and healing.
