Making the initial contact with a therapist can be frightening and my first task is to assist you in feeling comfortable getting help for yourself. This can also bring a sense of relief. My early career experiences at a crisis center and community mental health center have given me the ability to diagnose and treat a wide variety of problems. My specialty is in treating acute and/or chronic depression and anxiety; adults with a history of abuse; and longstanding relationship and personality issues. I welcome into treatment older adolescents, adults of all ages, couples and partners, and families. I am a client centered, insight-oriented therapist. I begin by encouraging my clients to "tell their story" and, while hearing the content, I am also listening for and observing any unspoken feelings. I focus on my clients' ego strengths and help them to understand the causes of their distress. I approach each person individually and believe that change comes with understanding symptoms, developing self-awareness, and strengthening coping skills. I treasure the space I work in and provide an environment where clients can feel trusting and safe; my intent is to help them live a better quality of life.
