I believe in an individualized approach to counseling/therapy. People often contact me for help with relationships, depression, anxiety, stress management, grief/loss, and other life transitions. To me, each situation is unique. My being a good listener as well as offering a variety of "psychological tools" are both important. For example, tools might include new skills in communication such as better ways to handle conflict or manage difficult emotions like anger, sadness, fear, envy or guilt. Providing a safe, supportive and confidential place to discuss difficult issues is essential. I also believe strongly in building on people's strengths. Thirty years as a psychotherapist has given me many relevant experiences to draw on. For over 20 years I was a child and family therapist. That background gives depth to my understanding of individual and family dynamics. Other specialization areas are work issues, healing from trauma, and medical/wellness issues. My individualized approach integrates training in psychodynamic therapy, family therapy, cognitive-behavioral, art therapy. I learn from clients and from my own life experiences. I try to tune into what people are looking for. This includes practical issues like scheduling. Flexible regarding frequency of appointments, I also offer evening hours.
