You are not what you feel. You are not even what you think. You are what you do. Acceptance & Commitment Therapy is about taking thoughts and feelings and using them for what they're supposed to be: data. They are merely to let us know how we're responding to our environment. It is up to our higher cognitions, our rational thoughts, to decide what to do with that information. My clients range from those with neurodevelopmental issues, mood disorders, and life adjustment events. The premise is the same in all cases: understand ourselves, what we feel and think, figure out WHY we think that way, and then decide what to do with it. I see myself as much a teacher and coach as a therapist. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mixed with post-modern existentialism. I try to help still the waters so a person can take a breath, collect themselves and be re-dedicated to finding the better version of themselves. It is often stress from trying to control the uncontrollable. I may not have travelled the exact same path as you, but I am probably familiar with the forest. I fervently believe we create meaning for our lives. I am not the person today without the struggles I've been through, and hopefully I won't be the same person in 10 years that I am today. That should be true of all of us.
