Greetings! Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Mona Lisa LaFontaine. I am a counselor in training at Northwestern University under supervision at a well- established practice that has multiple locations to better service the client base and specializes in treating generalized depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. As a counselor, I continually work to expand my understanding of the field while balancing autonomy and uniqueness and respecting the needs of each client to the best of my ability with the goal of assisting the client in using their experiences and skills to turn challenges into opportunities! As a newcomer to the profession I am actively working to find my niche. I am interested in assisting clients in uncovering situations or circumstances to empower them to be their best self to overcome hardships from relationships, experiences, or circumstances using a blended theoretical approach that is tailored to the individual and their needs. Being a good listener is one of my strongest natural born skills. A top priority in the counseling room is to build an authentic therapeutic alliance of trust and respect with each individual client and meet them where they are at to understand their unique challenges rather than trying to force them into a box that feels foreign and uncomfortable.
