I place importance on being approachable, thoughtful, sensitive and direct. In therapy, I think it is valuable to focus on both past and present experiences. Looking at your history can help us understand what sets of beliefs, about yourself and the world, might be holding you back from having a better experience in life - and what makes these beliefs so powerful. Examining current behaviors and interactions allows for reflection and adjustment of unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviors impeding your success and personal satisfaction. Some of my current interests include working with people facing problems with self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief and substance abuse, as well as marital, family and peer relationship difficulties. Below is an edited version of a press release from The Westport News with some background information: Dr. Tobin initially received an associate's degree in Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Counseling, then earned a scholarship to attend Sacred Heart University where he graduated summa cum laude and was the valedictorian of his class. He then earned his doctorate from Adelphi University and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Yale.
