I find that clients who want to change will initiate the conversation. They may not be able to identify all of the problem(s), the reason(s) behind the problem(s), their emotions, feelings, or actions concerning the problem(s). But if they are able to at least acknowledge that what they are doing, feeling, or experiencing is not working for them then they have a starting point. Counseling and treatment are not a set of boxes that one must check off, but rather a lived experience toward sobriety, life management, and a sense of recovering personal freedom. My diverse experiences in treatment, counseling, education, and ministry have equipped me to better approach the whole person. Because of my diverse experiences and my multicultural experiences, I work hard at engaging the client where they are presently with hopes that we can work together to set reasonable goals for a better life experience. As a Christian and a minister I live my life by the motto "but for the grace of God, go I." This simple statement allows me to offer empathy for the lives of others. I try to operate in a relational manner, working with the client toward wholeness physically, mentally, and spiritually. Grace and Mercy are at the center of my counseling model.
