I know that people try to solve problems on their own. But arguments with spouses, relatives, phobias, infidelity, porn addiction, depression, anxiety, temper outbursts, and workaholism can require a trained, neutral third party to help figure out what's going on. I obtained as much training as I could in psychiatry and treatment technique. I have tried to help patients become more aware of themselves, so they can solve their own problems and be done with me and treatment. Confidentiality is critical. You will not see anyone else except me in my office or on zoom. I treat people and consult to other therapists daily. In my books, 101 Defenses (2004, 2021) and Get the Diagnosis Right (2010, 2018), I describe the process of helping patients organize their material and deduce their unconscious defenses and conflicts. This is done through empathy with a variety of developmental theories applied. A good fit between patient and therapist is required. When you call, my office manager will take your identifying information on the phone. Then I will call you personally to find out more and make a preliminary decision about whether I think I can help, or if you need referral to a different type of therapist. I mostly see people on zoom, but can evaluate you in my office.
