I always gravitated to jobs that entailed helping people: Teacher; American Red Cross; Covenant House. I had also pursued seminary studies and was briefly on track to becoming a clergyman. Entry into grad school to study Counseling seemed the next natural step in my career path. But there was a more profound reason I became a Professional Helper, and that is my own lifelong struggles with anxiety and depression. No matter who the client is or what techniques I'm using, my goals are to alleviate mental and emotional suffering and to help clients improve their quality of life. I simply cannot imagine doing anything else but helping people---to cope, overcome, and heal, and to grow, thrive, live and love to the fullest. I've been a Professional Counselor for 32 years. I'm grateful for every day I have the privilege to make a difference in peoples' lives. Though semi-retired now, I still work 5-7 days a month and offer day and evening hours.
