Therapists » Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
My name is David Welch, M.A., LCPC. I am a licensed clinical professional counselor in Illinois. I have over 30 years of experience in working with both mental health, as well as addiction and substance use. I have worked in a variety of settings including inpatient, residential, outpatient, private practice, and Telehealth. I truly believe that people are more than a diagnosis. I see clients as being stuck rather than as mentally ill. Therapy is about helping others to recognize their negative patterns and creating new more empowering patterns. I love helping others to create massive positive changes in their lives. My approach to counseling and therapy is solution-focused and revolves more around the “how” to change the negative patterns, rather than spending a lot of time analyzing the “why.” I tend to utilize skills and tools from several modalities including, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and reality therapy. I truly believe that a successful outcome for clients is based on the strength and quality of the relationship and connection you are able to build with them. I don’t see the relationship as therapist/client, but rather human being to human being. Clients need to know and feel that you as the therapist are simply another human being.
