About

I am part of Montana DBT Associates and specialize in working with teens and adults with significant emotion dysregulation. Emotion dysregulation means intense, fast-changing emotions that are hard to cope with effectively. Emotion dysregulation often leads to impulsive, self-destructive behaviors or inconsistencies in daily living (difficulty with keeping self-care routines, finances, employment, and relationships). I specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based treatment for emotional and behavioral dysregulation.

DBT has been researched for over 30 years and is very effective for helping people learn to tolerate and regulate their emotions and develop a wide range of skills to live a balanced and fulfilling life. I also integrate attachment, feminist, and family systems theories to build self-compassion for how hard it is to be a deeply-feeling person in our world.

DBT rests on the idea that two opposing ideas can be true at the same time. This causes tension, which we often don't know how to tolerate. Many of us grew up in environments where emotions weren't tolerated and, as adults, we're part of a world that struggles to accept emotions. And so, we need to learn skills that help us build a life worth living.
