Do you remember thinking that life would get so much better when you became an adult? Adulthood was going to be awesome, perfect, and pretty much carefree. You would be in “control”. Do you remember thinking that you would be happier if you were more like everybody else and could just “fit in”? Do you remember thinking that when you “found the person meant for you”, you would be able to relax, and just enjoy the relationship? If you are like many people, frankly, things are not like you expected them to be at all! You are not sure where things went wrong. You just want to feel better, do better, and be in more control. That is why I trained and received my doctorate in Counseling Psychology where the focus is the challenges of everyday life. Things like relationships, loss, grief, parenting, and functioning in a place where others just don’t seem to “get” you. Here’s how it works: you tell me of your experiences, I reflect to make sure I accurately understand you, we collaboratively process and unpack what you share, and then we establish some different approaches you may try to apply as/if you choose to move forward effectively. Because, honestly, you do have some beautiful qualities that should be acknowledged.
