Is your child struggling? Are you struggling to be the parent you want to be? Author Virginia Satir points out “So much is asked of parents, and so little is given.” Parents often wish for more support and information on best practices related to child-rearing in the world we live in today. Navigating normal quandaries of school, friendship, self-esteem and more with our children can be scary. Sometimes, we hit bigger bumps in the road of life, like the loss of someone important (divorce, death, a move), health challenges (physical or mental) or circumstances that are unjust (bullying, trauma). Life may begin to feel unmanageable. As a School Counselor for 16 years, I worked with many parents and children. That role allowed me to walk with families in real-time and see the myriad of circumstances that influence a child’s life. Witnessing first hand the struggles, the pain and the courage carried out day to day has informed and influenced me as a therapist. If you think that it would be helpful to talk with someone who has experience working with various challenges that arise in childhood, I would love to be on your team. I believe that therapy should be collaborative and focused on recognizing strengths that already exist. I utilize play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-informed approaches.
